How To Put On a Corset

It’s easier to put on your corset if there is someone there to assist you.  However, you can successfully put it on by yourself using the following instructions.

Firstly, loosen the lacing at the back all the way open.  Put the corset around you & once the corset is in place fasten the hook & eye/busk by doing the top clasp first and the rest should follow.

Reaching behind you, pull the loops gently then tighten the lacing progressively towards the middle from both top and bottom until you are happy with the fit.

At this stage the corset should feel ‘snug’ without being overly tight.  If you want to lace it more tightly it is recommended that you tighten it gradually.  You will find it is easier to get a comfortable fit if you are patient.

Most corsets are designed to have a gap in the lace up back & it is acceptable to have a 2 to 3” gap in the lace up.

If your corset is front closing :

Firstly, loosen the lacing at the back all the way open.  Wrap the corset around & when it is sitting in the correct position begin fastening the front closures.  Start at the top and then continue with the rest.  At this point it is awkward, but worth the struggle.

When the front is done up, reach behind you & pull the laces gently to tighten the lacing progressively towards the middle from both top and bottom until you are happy with the fit.

When taking off your corset we recommend that you loosen the lace up back first.  This takes the pressure off the boning, particularly important if it is a soft boned corset.
